The ultimate lounge chair – Egg Chair inspired by Arne Jacobsen

After introducing you to the fabulous work of Hans J Wegner and his Ox Chair, today we at ImDesign are going to take a closer look at yet another iconic Danish design – the Egg Chair inspired by the Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen – it is an aesthetically unique piece, scroll down, we promise you are going to love it!

The Egg Chair in brown leather

At the end of the 50s Arne Jacobsen designed the Royal Hotel in Copenhagen, and for that project the Egg, the Swan, the Swan sofa and Series 3300. Arne Jacobsen was and is an admired and outstanding designer. While the significance of Arne Jacobsen’s buildings was less appreciated, his furniture and other design work have become national and international heritage.

Egg and Swan chair side by side

Arne Jacobsen designed the Egg Chair in 1958 for the lobby and reception areas in the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, in Copenhagen. The commission to design every element of the hotel building as well as the furniture was Jacobsen’s grand opportunity to put his theories of integrated design and architecture into practice. The Egg is one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s total design.

The Egg implemented in a bachelor pad design – glamorous!

The Egg Chair is an aesthetically unique piece which exudes comfort and style – one of the triumphs of Jacobsen’s total design philosophy- a sculptural contrast to the hotel’s almost exclusively vertical and horizontal surfaces.

The egg Chair in sleek black leather

The Egg Chair is available in a wide range of fabric and leather upholstery. The star base is made of aluminium mounted on a satin polished steel pedestal. The shells are made of a synthetic material, padded with cold-cured foam. An upholstered foot stool with aluminium base is available for the Egg.
The Egg is fabulous in red

Like a sculptor, Jacobsen strove to find the shell’s perfect shape in clay at home in his own garage. Because of the unique shape, the Egg guarantees a bit of privacy in otherwise public spaces and the Egg – with or without foot stool – is ideal for lounge and waiting areas, as well as an elegant choice for the home.

The selection features work by the only two women to have been awarded the Pritzker Prize – Zaha Hadid and Kazuyo Sejima – as well as projects designed by Sharon Davis and Elisabete de Oliveira Saldanha, who both won Building of the Year 2016 awards. All projects represent the potential of each architect and can serve as inspiration for everyone.

knife-edge pool design

New year – new trends. Spring is already here and summer’s right around the corner – if you’re considering a new pool for the hot upcoming season, why not usher in the new year the right way. These up and coming pool trends are everything you’ve ever wanted for your pool, but didn’t even know you could have! Let’s dive in!

Stunning knife-edge pool design!

Knife-Edge Design
With water that appears to float at deck level, this technically challenging detail creates a look that is unmatched in pool design. An upgrade from the ever popular infinity edge design, the knife-edge shares the same negative drop-off characteristics as its predecessor, but without the inherent necessity of an overhanging ledge! This design utilizes a diagonal slot, constructed within the pool interior, to give the pool the appearance that the water level is overflowing onto the surrounding deck or pavement, without ever actually spilling over. The design showcases no visible incongruity between the pool and surrounding surface, giving the pool a somewhat illusionary effect – the driving force behind its growing popularity. Infinity pools can be an amazing spectacle with the right backyard landscape, but the knife-edge design can accommodate any flat-surfaced area.

Fabulous baja shelves pool design

Baja Shelves & In-Pool Furniture
One reason Baja shelves are so popular is that they can fit into just about any pool design. The shape can be customized to fit the pool, whether it’s geometric, freeform, or some other style. And, while space is an issue, they require a lot less room than beach entries, which offer many of the same benefits.
While neither typically exist apart, Baja shelves can exist singularly. Commonly thought of as lounging areas, these “shelves” are an intuitive design feature which effectively transforms any generic pool into a backyard resort. With the water level lapping gently over the shelf area, you and your guests will be able to lay back and relax in the water during breaks between swimming sessions. As aforementioned, semi-submergible lounge furniture is the key to the ultimate water lounge experience. From chaise lounges, to pillows and tables, you would be astounded by the complexity of the underwater set-ups available today.

Astonishing zero entry modern pool design

Zero Entry
A zero entry swimming pool, also known as a beach entry, is a design that brings to mind going to an actual beach – minus the sand. Comparable in nature to the baja shelves’ beach-like offerings, the zero entry slope ups the ante, providing your pool with an entrance reminiscent to that of a real beach. In addition to easing access for aesthetic affinity, this surfacing feature creates a safe environment for young children to learn to swim, and accommodates the needs of disabled and elderly guests. To complete the atmosphere, some owners even elect to include sand and tropical trees, effectively forming their own tropical escape, right in the comfort of their backyard.

The hottest trend in pool design!

Fire Features
From glowing fire pits and fire bowls to blazing tiki torches and fire troughs, today’s talented pool builders and designers are incorporating a variety of fire features in their swimming pool designs.
Fire and water features are a great way to add depth to your pool atmosphere and set the tone of your landscape. There are a variety of fire features on the market, some functional, others solely aesthetic. Depending on the ambiance you wish to cultivate, pavement-bound fire pits may be of interest to you. Fully functional, and great for warming up after a dip, these features make the perfect centerpieces for those aspiring to bring people together. Poolside fire features, on the other hand, can really enhance and accentuate the characteristics of your pool.
LED lights – an astonishing trend!
Accentuated Lighting
Practical yet tasteful, underwater LED lights can really push your pool over the top, and elegantly accommodate night swimming. When coupled with poolside outdoor lighting, you can really set the mood you’re going for. Most lighting systems can be configured to exhibit specific patterns and a variety of colors. You should be able to work with your provider to develop the backyard ambiance you’re searching for.
Immense beauty with glass tiling!
Glass Tiling
Glass tile adds immense beauty and allure to swimming pools, and when installed properly, most types of glass tile represent the most durable of all swimming pool and spa surfaces. Glass tiles come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and finishes, and can be used to accent any style of pool, be it traditional, modern, or natural.
Glass tiling has become an increasingly popular accent in new pool designs. Its iridescent shine provides a stylish accompaniment to any pool, especially the knife-edge and infinity edge designs. In terms of utility, glass tiling outperforms both its ceramic and porcelain counterparts, making it the best all-around choice.
Easy maintenance and automation
Digital Compatibility
In accordance with the growing desire for simplicity and control in today’s market, many pool companies have developed smartphone compatible equipment, which allow for full integration and control of your backyard masterpiece. We are now at the time where most things in your home can be controlled with the use of your smartphone or via the internet. Your backyard swimming pool is no different. Automated systems for your swimming pool allow you to be able to control temperature, chemical feeding, cleaning, lighting, filtration and other features. Want to turn on your hot tub jets on your way home from a long day at work? This can simply be done via an app on your smartphone. The owners of this charming family abode

The owners of this charming family abode in Burlingame, California, USA had long dreamed of an Eichler home remodel they would live in forever. Their vision was clean, contemporary, modern and open. Klopf Architecture would design and reconfigure the open plan family room, remove some walls and add windows, reconfigure the bathrooms/ laundry areas and upgrade systems to be more efficient, while working closely with the talented executive mother of three on selection of interior finishes and fixtures.

Beautiful outdoor area

The living area opens beautifully into the outdoor area, which is a key design element of Eichler homes.

Spacious and elegant

The owners decorated and furnished the home themselves, with many vintage mid-century modern furniture pieces and original art. The result is a fascinating array of modern interiors, each defined by a unique style. We find the inner terrace particularly interesting with its simple, yet practical configuration. What details do you consider appealing?

Front view – magnificent

Stunning Eichler remodel  – close up

The white kitchen island – symbol of modern cuisine
The kitchen remodel included creating more space and installing a single-plane island that served as the perfect spot for the family’s children to do everything from eating to studying schoolwork.
The living room opens beautifully onto the outdoor
Here, the relationship between indoors and outdoors is on full display. The architects aimed to create a smooth transition between the two areas by incorporating glass doors that don’t obstruct any views.
Stunning view from the dining room
In an effort to create a more open floor plan, a portion of the wall between the kitchen, family area, and dining room was removed. Part of the dining room wall was also replaced with a huge window that not only makes a statement, but also gives the family a stunning view of the backyard area.

Are you looking for garden fence ideas or a hedging fence?

Are you looking for garden fence ideas or a hedging fence? Or maybe you’re searching for a fabulous combination of these two? You’ve come to the right place – We will give you amazing ideas and tips on how to make your garden a nice and cozy place, where you can relax, and we will even help you explore different elements that can give your garden more intimacy and privacy. Try our easy ways and beautiful ideas and we guarantee you, you will set up the cozy, relaxing and private garden you’ve always dreamt of.

Beautiful stone fence for more intimacy

The quickest way is to put up or build a fence.  The garden fence’s primary function is to define a property, but in addition, it is also essential to ensure intimacy – fences keep your neighbors attention away, provide shelter from the wind  and they also give a sense of enclosure and security. This might be the perfect choice if you have children, the fence will help you keep them inside! If you want to build a privacy fence screen, choose a material and style that complement your home design.

Want more privacy – build a pergola!

Tip: If you want to create more privacy, take a look around your garden before putting up a fence. Maybe you could use some existing structures to create more discretion. For example, add a small patio area next to your garage or home and see how it goes – might be all you need!

Grow a hedge fence – fabulous!

If you don’t like the idea of building a fence, or it seems a bit expensive to you – we have the solution – grow a hedge! There are many hedge plants that would be perfect for more privacy in the garden. For a natural look, combine a variety of hedging plants and bushes. Experiment with the height, size, color and shapes – create a beautiful mosaic of plants! For a neater look, remember to cut the hedge plants regularly.

Trim the hedge plants regularly for such a perfection!

Tip: The best time to cut your hedge, depends on what type of hedging plants you grow. It is important for the good look of your hedge, that the bottom is wider than the top. Easy growing and commonly used hedge plants are : boxwood (Buxus sempervirens), juniper (Juniperus scopulorum ‘Skyrocket’), columnar white pine (Pinus strobus ‘Fastigiata’), English laurel (Prunus laurocerasus), Pittosporum (Pittosporum tobira), privet (Ligustrum vulgare), Yaupon holly (Ilex vomitoria), yew (Taxus x media).
Form and shape the garden slopes
Garden slopes are basically miniature hills that add height – an effective and natural way to create more intimacy. They are also good for highlighting smaller plans as they bring all the other eye-catching plants to eye level. Due to the sloping sides, berms are better than flat beds – they are suitable for rock gardens, and all other species that prefer dry land. Landscaped garden slopes create useful and physical curtain between the street and the garden. For more stability you can place and arrange rocks and stones. Design
Tip: If you make a garden slope, usually the ratio applies from one foot height to four feet wide, to prevent the soil running down the slope.
Hedge plants and columnar trees
While a pergola probably will not provide such a good protection as a fence or a hedge for your yard, it is a great idea for adding more privacy and intimacy to a smaller area and space. A vine-covered pergola or a pergola decorated with climbing plants creates a private, shady corner – perfect for a lovely bench or terrace. You can set up different levels of privacy with pergolas – hanging leaves and eco-friendly fabrics serve as curtains and add even more peaceful and quite atmosphere.
Wisteria and tulips creating tranquility!
If you want to hide or cover up a place in your garden, use a wood lattice and some beautiful colorful climbing plants. Vines give the garden lattice an interesting appearance and integrate it into the landscape. Be sure that you pick the right kind of climbing plants your place needs for a cozy and intimate space. Large vines can easily crush the wood lattice, small plants on the other hand are not big enough to cover a large pergola and will definitely offer you enough privacy and more intimate space within your garden.
Luxuriant vegetation
Top Small Climbers:
Black-eyed Susan vine (Thunbergia alata), Cardinal climber (Ipomoea x multifida), clematis (Clematis) Hyazinth bean (Lablab purpureus), field bindweed (Ipomoea tricolor)
