The owners of this charming family abode in Burlingame, California, USA had long dreamed of an Eichler home remodel they would live in forever. Their vision was clean, contemporary, modern and open. Klopf Architecture would design and reconfigure the open plan family room, remove some walls and add windows, reconfigure the bathrooms/ laundry areas and upgrade systems to be more efficient, while working closely with the talented executive mother of three on selection of interior finishes and fixtures.

The living area opens beautifully into the outdoor area, which is a key design element of Eichler homes.
Spacious and elegant
The owners decorated and furnished the home themselves, with many vintage mid-century modern furniture pieces and original art. The result is a fascinating array of modern interiors, each defined by a unique style. We find the inner terrace particularly interesting with its simple, yet practical configuration. The kitchen remodel included creating more space and installing a single-plane island that served as the perfect spot for the family’s children to do everything from eating to studying schoolwork.
Here, the relationship between indoors and outdoors is on full display. The architects aimed to create a smooth transition between the two areas by incorporating glass doors that don’t obstruct any views.
Stunning view from the dining room
In an effort to create a more open floor plan, a portion of the wall between the kitchen, family area, and dining room was removed. Part of the dining room wall was also replaced with a huge window that not only makes a statement, but also gives the family a stunning view of the backyard area.
